Cheap Dedicated Server Hosting
Building a PC for a TF2 LAN server?
This summer, I’m planning on hosting a small LAN Party for about a dozen people, and I was planning on building a cheap PC to serve as a dedicated Team Fortress 2 server, so I’m wondering what you guys would recommend for hardware on this machine (CPU, RAM, etc.) Keep in mind that this is NOT going to be an online server, so bandwidth won’t be an issue. Also, I might have a few bots to make up for the lack of players.

I just built my home server out of my old computer parts – I actually built a new PC for home and used the old for the server parts.
That included my old hard drive & Windows XP, my old P4 motherboard 3.06 Ghz Processor w/ 2Gb memory.
I am using the build in vga so there is no video card added – no sound, its a server. I got a new server case to hold six hard drives internally, the 3 Dvd Drives.
I purchased a router and it is up and running now…. in two days my new PC will be complete and online too.
You could use an old known working computer for parts and just use that as your server….Ultimately, I will be building a home media network and this is the primary purpose of the server – to pipe movies to the TV and 24/7 music to the home stereo – via wireless attentea & wireless laptop connectiong to the internet ( daugher’s Xmas Present this year)
BTW, once the server is running I disconnected the mouse, keyboard, and monitor – there is no need to have them attached …..only on an as-needed basis.
